Install SkatingApp With VeloPack

SkatingApp, SkatingApp Scoreboard, and SkatingApp PhotoFinish are distributed as separate signed Windows installers. Each application can be installed and updated independently.

Requirements

  • Windows 11, 64-bit.
  • A Windows user account that can install applications for that user.
  • The device drivers and external software required by your timing or photo-finish equipment.
  • SQL Server access for applications that use a SkatingApp database.

The installers include the required .NET runtime. You do not need to install .NET separately.

Install An Application

  1. Close every running SkatingApp application.
  2. Download the appropriate signed installer from Download SkatingApp Installers.
  3. Right-click the installer, select Properties, open Digital Signatures, and confirm that the signature is valid and belongs to the expected publisher.
  4. Run the installer:
  • SCGVisual.SkatingApp-Setup.exe
  • SCGVisual.SkatingApp.Scoreboard-Setup.exe
  • SCGVisual.SkatingApp.PhotoFinish-Setup.exe
  1. The installer normally starts the application automatically. Do not start a second copy. If it does not open, start it from its Start menu shortcut.
  2. Confirm that the application opens and that its database, license, and device settings are correct.

Installation is per Windows user and does not normally require administrator access. VeloPack owns the application files under:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\SCGVisual.SkatingApp
%LOCALAPPDATA%\SCGVisual.SkatingApp.Scoreboard
%LOCALAPPDATA%\SCGVisual.SkatingApp.PhotoFinish

VeloPack replaces files inside its current directory during updates. Do not put databases, configuration, templates, images, licenses, or other custom files there.

Application Data

All three applications keep persistent user data outside the installation directory:

%APPDATA%\SkatingApp

This folder contains settings, the license, shared print templates, template images, and logs. See Configuration Files for details.

Updates

Each application checks its own update feed shortly after startup. When an update is available, you can download it and either restart immediately or postpone the restart. A postponed update is applied on a later application launch.

You can also check manually from the application's update command. Closing the update prompt or cancelling a download leaves the current version installed. If the computer is offline or the update feed is unavailable, the application continues to start normally.

Close related SkatingApp applications before applying an update, especially when they share the same database or hardware.

Uninstall And Reinstall

Uninstall each application separately from Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Uninstall removes VeloPack-managed program files and shortcuts. It does not remove %APPDATA%\SkatingApp.

Reinstalling the same application should reuse the existing persistent settings. Keep a backup of %APPDATA%\SkatingApp before uninstalling or reinstalling when the workstation contains production event data or custom templates.

If this computer currently uses the legacy .NET Framework MSIX/App Installer edition, back up %APPDATA%\SkatingApp, uninstall the legacy application, then install the corresponding VeloPack installer. Do not install the two editions side by side. Follow Move From MSIX To VeloPack for the full procedure.
