Skating Scoreboard

Skating Scoreboard displays timing, start lists and results using the selected event, competition and application-clock input. Use the existing screen buttons to choose what is shown. Press Start list or Results again to advance to the next page. Page sizes are set in the main window.

Timing information

Use Timing display in the main window to choose information during a race:

  • Top 5 keeps the existing results panel below the racers.
  • Comparison shows a reference above the racers.
  • None hides both.

These choices apply immediately and are saved between sessions. Unused content collapses in the videoboard; the operator controls remain available. Quartets hide both panels and restore your selection when pair racing resumes. The Small layout and mass-start presentation retain their existing limitations.

For Comparison, choose Leader, World Record, National Record, or Track Record. Leader is the competition leader among completed official results, not the leading racer in the current pair. National Record uses the venue's country; Track Record uses the venue's track. Records must match the distance and category and be dated on or before the event starts.

The panel shows the reference identity, next passing point, lap time and cumulative passing time. It advances when the leading racer reaches a passing and retains the final reference at the finish. Missing records, leaders or splits leave blank fields on the public screens. No loading or error messages are shown. The app does not estimate a time or select another reference automatically. Leader references are checked every 15 seconds for a new or corrected result. Passing-point changes use cached reference splits. For Leader, the current reference passing stays visible for eight seconds after the first racer passes, giving spectators time to compare, before advancing to the next passing. The second racer passing the same point does not extend this delay. Record comparisons advance immediately. WPF and Venus share this behavior.

Selecting a reference changes this panel only. Racers' existing lap differences and other time differences remain unchanged.

The operator window starts wider and lets the preview shrink to keep controls accessible. Use Help > Online Documentation for this guide and Help > Update Scoreboard to check for updates.

Venus 7000 output

The scoreboard can send to a Venus 7000 while displaying its WPF scoreboard at the same time. Both outputs follow the same screen selection and list page.

Open View > Options > Venus to configure:

  • Activate Venus output: enable or disable transmission.
  • Destination IP address: the Venus controller computer.
  • Main text UDP port: receives headings, names, start lists and results.
  • Timing UDP port: receives the live timing fields.

Choose Apply to save and use the complete configuration. Closing Options without applying discards edits in the Venus tab. IP address and ports must be valid; UDP ports range from 1 to 65535.

The defaults are IP address 192.168.1.145, main port 7123, and timing port 7124. Configure matching RTD inputs and display fields on the Venus computer. Existing installation settings take precedence over these defaults.

Activation and destination settings are saved with the scoreboard's normal settings. If activated, Venus output resumes automatically when the app starts. Activation sends the current screen immediately. Deactivation attempts to clear both Venus buffers before stopping. Closing only the WPF display window does not deactivate Venus.

Comparison reference

The WPF comparison uses the same large fonts and two-row structure as the racers. The first row shows LEAD: / WR: / NR: / TR: before the name, nation code and flag, and finish time. The second row shows passing time, target distance and lap time in the corresponding racer columns. Long names are shortened with an ellipsis to keep the text readable.

For pair racing, Comparison also shows the selected reference in the historical Venus reference area above the racers. It follows the same selection and target as the WPF videoboard. Top 5, None and quartets clear that reference area while preserving the racer output. Top 5 results on Venus are not included.

Passing-time hold

When a passing arrives, the Venus clock field holds that passing time for the Show passing time duration configured in Options > General. After the hold, Venus returns to the latest live time. A newer passing replaces the held time, and the final passing remains displayed.

This hold applies only to Venus output. The WPF running clock continues to update normally, whether Venus is active or not. The existing passing-detail presentation in WPF is unchanged.

With Quantum, enable the generated running clock in the timing-device configuration when the hardware feed does not provide frequent running-time updates. Its generated clock updates every 100 ms, allowing tenths to move.

Screens and capacity

Venus uses the historical layout of 9 rows by 40 characters, including a heading. It supports timing, start lists, and results. Clear and every other screen selection, including Countdown, Schedule, and Championship, blank the Venus text and timing buffers.

The existing page-size controls remain unrestricted. Venus displays only the entries that fit in its layout:

List Venus capacity per shared page
Start list Four pairs/start-number groups, two rows per group
Results Eight entries

For example, a result page size of ten shows all ten entries in WPF and the first eight on Venus. The next page starts at entry eleven on both outputs. Entries nine and ten are omitted on Venus; they do not receive an extra page.

A start-list page size of five similarly displays the first four pairs on Venus. Its next page begins with pair six. Names and other fields that exceed their fixed widths are truncated. Select page sizes suitable for the venue when every entry must be visible on Venus.

Timing uses the rows provided by the current timing screen, including pair, quartet, and team rows. This output does not add live timing support for disciplines that the scoreboard timing screen does not already expose.

Output status

The bottom status bar shows the running version, timing input and Venus followed by a circle, separated for readability. Hover over Venus for its state and configured IP address and UDP ports. Any current error is also included.

State in tooltip Circle Meaning
Off Red Output is deactivated
Starting Green Activated; waiting for the first successful transmission
Sending Bright green The required packets were sent successfully by this computer
Error Red Configuration, rendering, or transmission failed

The indicator is read-only. Change settings through the normal Options navigation.

UDP does not acknowledge receipt. Sending does not confirm that the Venus screen received or displayed the data. A static list can remain in Sending status without continuous network traffic.

If an error occurs, check the settings and venue network. Apply the settings again to retry the current screen, or deactivate and reactivate output. The next screen or data update also attempts transmission again. A separate diagnostic screen and packet-history viewer are not included.
